STOP TALKING!

I need to figure out how to get people to stop talking. It is difficult to provide constructive feedback to someone when they are talking instead of listening. At least she was talking about what she would have done differently!

Any advice?

Sandy,

Have you considered giving participants in workshops or those that you work with a backchannel to have a voice? Maybe the creation of a wiki or blog site where they can communicate their thoughts, ideas or an occasional rant? If your issue is during a workshop maybe you could use a chat backchannel where you can save the chat (something like Twitter)

Give them a place to do converse and you may get more than you expected. Especially when they know you are listening. :)

Brian, good advice, but I guess I should have described this better. This was a one on one conversation.

Sandy, I thought it might, but I believe the suggestion still applies. If a teacher/admin/whoever has a channel to have a rant/make a suggestion/voice a concern/etc and we address them in our meetings (1-on-1 or group) I have faith they will listen.

Maybe not, but at least we know about their thoughts/feelings before hand. :)
